When it comes to mattresses, size matters. In fact, the size of your mattress can have a big impact on the quality of your sleep. In today’s blog, our mattress experts answer one of our customers’ most frequently asked questions: what size mattress do I need?
Twin Mattress Dimensions: 39×75 inches (width by height)
A twin bed only comfortably sleeps single sleepers under 6 feet tall. That’s why twin mattresses are most commonly used by children and teens. That said, they can also be found in small guest bedrooms.
Twin XL Mattresses
Twin XL Mattress Dimensions: 39×80 inches (width by height)
Like twin mattresses, twin XL mattresses are best suited for one person. The extra 5 inches of length, however, makes twin XL mattresses perfect for people over 6 feet tall or kids who may exceed that height.
Full Mattress Dimensions: 54×75 inches (width by height)
Also known as double beds, full-size beds are generally intended for single sleepers. That said, the extra width makes them a great option for individuals who might want to share their bed with a pet. Because of their length, full mattresses are best for people under 6 feet.
Queen Mattress Dimensions: 60×80 inches (width by height)
Queen mattresses are large enough to comfortably sleep two people. They’re also the most common mattress size. While they provide 6 more inches of width than a full-size bed, queen beds actually provide less personal space for couples than they would get individually in a twin bed.
King Mattress Dimensions: 76×80 inches (width by height)
Because they’re 16 inches wider than queen beds, king mattresses tend to be the best mattress size for couples. That extra space is especially important for couples whose pets sleep in the bed with them or whose kids often come into the bed in the middle of the night. Unfortunately, king size beds can sometimes be too wide to comfortably fit in a bedroom or too bulky to maneuver through narrow doors, hallways, and staircases.
California King Mattresses
California King Dimensions: 72×84 inches (width by height)
Because of their extended length, California king mattresses tend to be the best mattresses for tall people. In fact, they’re the only mattress that can comfortably accommodate people over 6 feet 2 inches tall. When it comes to width, they’re identical to king mattresses, meaning they’re great for couples but can be hard to fit into a small bedroom.
